The word of the cross
Paul calls the message ho logos ho tou staurou — the word of the stake. He knows exactly how it sounds. Foolishness to Greeks, a stumbling block to Jews, and he prints it anyway as the centre of what he preaches.
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 1:18→
“but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,”
1 Corinthians 1:23→
“But as for me, may I never boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
Galatians 6:14→
