“To him that overcometh”
Seven times in Revelation 2-3 the letters to the churches end with a promise attached to the same verb: to the one who conquers. It is the same word a Greek would use of an athlete or a general, and John gives it to ordinary congregations under pressure.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to eat from the tree of life in the Paradise of God.”
Revelation 2:7→
“To the one who overcomes, I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”
Revelation 3:21→
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Romans 12:21→
