   When David came to Mahanaim, he was met by Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah of the Ammonites, Machir son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim.

   “Being considered a luxurious refreshment (So 4:11), the supply of it shows the high respect that was paid to David by his loyal and faithful subjects at Mahanaim.

2. 2 Samuel 19:31

   Now Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim to cross the Jordan with the king and send him on his way from there.

   “And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim,.... The place of his habitation, to Jordan, see 2Sa 17:27, and went over Jordan with the king to conduct him over Jordan; to accompany him over the river, and then take his leave of him.

   “King - Is not my kingdom, which was in a manner wholly lost, just now restored and assured to me? And when God hath been so merciful to me in forgiving my sin, shall I shew myself revengeful to Shemei? Shall I sully the publick joy and glory of this day, with an act of such severity?
