Person
Jacob
The heel-grasping supplanter reshaped at Peniel into 'Israel, he who strives with God' — father of the twelve tribes.
Jacob takes the birthright and blessing, flees to Paddan-aram, and wrestles God at Peniel where he is renamed Israel. His ladder-vision at Bethel is claimed by Jesus as Himself (John 1:51). His twelve sons become the tribes of Israel.
