Greek eirēnē carries Greco-Roman treaty-peace connotations; Hebrew shalom is wholeness, completeness. Isa 9:6 names the Messiah "Prince of Peace." John 14:27 — "my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth." Phil 4:7 — "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding."
