John Burke

John Burke is an American evangelical pastor, author, and speaker. He is the founder (1998) and former lead pastor of Gateway Church (Austin, Texas) — a multi-site church grown to 4,500+ regular attendees since planting. (Note: this Gateway Church is distinct from the Gateway Church in Southlake, TX founded by Robert Morris.) Burke transitioned from skepticism / agnosticism to evangelical Christianity in his early adulthood; the catalyst was reading NDE research while keeping vigil at his dying father's bedside — the cumulative testimonial weight pushed him toward the evidential case for theism, then for biblical Christianity. He has authored *No Perfect People Allowed* (2005, on radically-inclusive evangelism), *Soul Revolution* (2008), *Imagine Heaven: Near-Death Experiences, God's Promises, and the Exhilarating Future That Awaits You* (2015, NYT bestseller), *Imagine the God of Heaven: Near-Death Experiences, God's Revelation, and the Love You've Always Wanted* (2023), and additional titles.
