Jamie Winship

Jamie Winship is an American minister, ministry trainer, cross-cultural worker, and co-founder (with his wife Donna) of Identity Exchange, a training-and-consulting ministry teaching the "Identity Method" for displacing false identity narratives with the believer's identity in Christ. A former Metro Washington DC-area police officer (1980s–1990s) and Vietnam-era veteran, Winship transitioned to international cross-cultural ministry, spending nearly three decades living and working in Muslim-world conflict zones (Indonesia, Egypt, Iraq, and other Muslim-majority contexts) where he developed the Identity Method as a way to teach hearing-God-and-identity practice across cultural and religious boundaries. He holds an M.A. in English. His book *Living Fearless: Exchanging the Lies of the World for the Liberating Truth of God* (2022) and the Identity Exchange eight-module training program are the standard references. A second book, *War of Worldviews*, builds the cross-cultural-conflict frame.

• Identity in Christ vs Identity as Sinner — The believer's true identity is what the Father has spoken in Christ — beloved, accepted, son/daughter, ambassador. False identity-narratives (the lies of the world, the orphan-self, performance-based self-conception) must be actively displaced through hearing what God says and exchanging the lie for the truth. Identity is operative, not merely positional.
• Fear of the Lord Emphasis — Winship's framework — "Living Fearless" — is the displacement of unhealthy fear (anxiety, intimidation, orphan-fear) with the secured-identity-in-Christ. He affirms the fear of the Lord as appropriate reverence but his catalog emphasis is on the fear-of-the-Lord-as-protective-replacement-of-fear-of-everything-else, paired with operative identity. Aligns functionally with Bevere; Bevere is more explicitly fear-of-the-Lord-anchored.
• Method and Validation — God speaks today; the believer can be trained to hear. The validation is multi-layered — scripture-conformity, character-of-God-conformity, fruit-of-the-Spirit-producing-conformity. Listening is a discipline that develops with practice; the cultivated quietness of the soul is the precondition for clear hearing.
• Cessation — Continuationist; the Spirit speaks today, the gifts continue. Winship's entire methodology assumes ongoing Spirit-communication.
• Resurrection Evidence Strength — Affirmed; Winship's cross-cultural-mission work routinely includes apologetic engagement, especially in Muslim contexts where the resurrection is the contested boundary.
• Identity vs Performance — Christian life flows from identity, not toward it. Performance-based striving is itself a symptom of false identity. The displacement of performance-orientation with received-identity is operative discipleship.
