Chapter summary
Korah's rebellion. Two hundred fifty princes of Israel — with Korah the Levite, Dathan, Abiram, and On — rise up against Moses and Aaron: ‘ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them’. Moses proposes the test of the censers. Dathan and Abiram refuse to come up. In the morning the earth opens her mouth and swallows them with their households; fire from the LORD consumes the 250 at the censer-trial. The congregation murmurs the next day — ‘ye have killed the people of the LORD’ — and a plague begins. Aaron runs with his censer into the midst and makes atonement; 14,700 die; ‘and the plague was stayed’.
