Chapter summary
Woes to the scribes and Pharisees — 'hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men.' Eight woes: shutting the kingdom, proselytes, swearing, mint and cummin, cup and platter, whited sepulchres, tombs of the prophets, the blood of the righteous. Lament over Jerusalem — 'how often would I have gathered thy children.'
