Chapter summary

Laws of bodily discharges. An issue of the flesh — men and women both — renders unclean. Time-limited uncleanness for menstruation; extended uncleanness for chronic issue. Washing, time, and a sin offering and burnt offering after seven days of clean. ‘Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them.’ The chapter takes the body's normal functions into the regime of holiness. Mark 5:25–34 — the woman with the issue of blood — reads Jesus' healing against this chapter's twelve years of ritual exclusion.
