Chapter summary

A wife for Isaac. The eldest servant of Abraham's house is sent back to Mesopotamia with ten camels and gifts and a solemn oath. His prayer at the well of Nahor — ‘O LORD God of my master Abraham, send me good speed this day’ — is answered before he has done speaking: Rebekah comes out, and at his quiet test she waters the camels. Her family receives the servant; Laban and Bethuel acknowledge the hand of the LORD; Rebekah consents to go at once. Isaac is meditating in the field at evening; he sees her, she veils herself, and he is comforted after his mother's death.
