Chapter summary
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy greet the church of the Thessalonians. Paul gives thanks for their work of faith, labour of love, and patience of hope. The gospel came not in word only, but in power and in the Holy Ghost. Ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. Their faith is sounded forth throughout Macedonia and Achaia. Calvin reads the chapter as the apostolic template for Christian growth observable to neighbours.
