Sons of God or Sons of Israel?

The Masoretic Text facing 4QDeutj and the Septuagint at Deuteronomy 32:8.

Primary passage:Deuteronomy 32:8

The full variant study: MT "children of Israel" against the Qumran fragment 4QDeutj and the LXX "sons of God / angels of God," with Deuteronomy 4:19–20 as the allotment counterpart inside the book itself and Psalm 82:1 as the scene the scroll reading pairs with. The claim (the scroll reading is original and reveals a divine-council cosmology — Heiser, The Unseen Realm, 2015, cite-only) and the critique (the MT as deliberate, meaningful reading; caution against building systems on one variant) are both displayed, per the manuscripts ledger's contested-point discipline. A sibling variant — the longer Deut 32:43 attested in 4QDeutq/LXX and quoted at Hebrews 1:6 ("let all the angels of God worship him") — shows the same chapter carrying the same heavenly-host texture.
